I should have been a forest under the summer sun to you. I should have been an empty isle at the grocery store. The edges of a map. The hills stretching off into the distance.
But I was none of those things to you. I was the threat of rain from an overcast sky. A swarm of uncomfortable numbers buzzing like insects around a page. A ever growing number of mice in a place that mice should not be.
